General information about antifreeze

            0

Warning: Do not allow antifreeze to come into contact with skin or vehicle paint. Its smudges must be immediately washed off with a stream of water. Antifreeze is highly toxic if inhaled. Never leave it in an open container or in a container on the floor. Keep children and pets away from it. Used antifreeze should be disposed of in special places

The cooling system must be filled with an antifreeze mixture of water and an ethylene glycol based fluid that prevents the system from freezing at temperatures above -25°C or below, depending on the climate. Antifreeze also provides corrosion protection and raises the boiling point of the coolant.

Maintenance of the cooling system must be performed according to the schedule - see chapter 1. Using antifreeze that does not meet Ford specifications or old or contaminated coolant may cause malfunctions in the system, which can lead to corrosion, as well as to liquid boiling in it. To prepare coolant, mix antifreeze with distilled water. If you don't have it, use only soft water. Purified rainwater can be used as such.

Before adding antifreeze, check all hoses and their connections, as antifreeze easily seeps through the slightest leaks. Usually, when the engine is running, the amount of coolant is maintained. If its level has dropped, identify the cause of this and eliminate it. The ratio of components of antifreeze and water depends on the climate. The mixture must contain at least 40% and not more than 70% antifreeze. Before adding coolant, pay attention to the concentration of the mixture indicated on the container with antifreeze. To control the ratio of the components of the coolant, use a hydrometer, which can be bought at auto supply stores. Use antifreeze that meets the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
