Air conditioning system

            0

General information

The air conditioning system comprises a condenser upstream of the radiator, an evaporator mounted next to the heat exchanger, a compressor mounted on the engine, an accumulator/dryer, and fittings for connecting the above components. The system contains a diffuser installed in the inlet tract of the evaporator, which reduces the pressure, which is necessary for the implementation of the cooling effect (see fig. 11.1).

Pic. 11.1. Air conditioning components
1. Schrader Valve Quick Coupling - High Side
2. Schrader Valve Quick Coupling - Low Side
3. Pressure pulsation sensor - low pressure side
4. Battery/dryer
5. Compressor
6. Capacitor
7. Pressure control sensor - high pressure side

The blower draws warm air from the passenger compartment through the evaporator core (which is like a radiator working in reverse - to cool the air passing through it). The heat from the air is transferred to the refrigerant. The refrigerant boils and turns into vapor and, giving off heat to the evaporator, leaves it.

Precautionary measures

Warning: The air conditioning system is under high pressure. Do not loosen connections or remove components until you have relieved system pressure. The refrigerant must be drained into a suitable container by dealers or air conditioning specialists. Always protect your eyes when disconnecting system components.

Special precautions must be observed when installing the system.
  • A) Although the R134A refrigerant is less harmful to the environment than the previously used RTS, it is still quite dangerous. Avoid contact with skin or eyes to avoid the risk of frostbite. Since it is non-toxic, it does not require an enclosed space to drain from the system, but there is a risk of suffocation. Since the density of this refrigerant is higher than that of air, it should never be drained from the system above the inspection hole.
  • b) The refrigerant must not be handled near an unprotected flame, otherwise, under certain conditions, a poisonous gas may be formed, which, when mixed with air, can form an explosive mixture. For the same reasons, you should not smoke near the refrigerant and especially inhale its vapors through a burning cigarette.
  • V) It is impossible to drain the contents of the system into the environment, as this is harmful to it.
  • G) Do not mix R134A refrigerant with R13 refrigerant. because they have different seals in the system (in the current system - green, in the previous - black), as well as different fittings requiring different tools.
  • d) If the system needs to be disconnected, contact your dealers.
  • e) Before performing work related to heating - welding, soldering, etc., the system must be emptied by specialists.
