Removing and installing the rear hub (Focus 2)

You will need a TORX T50 key.

1. Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.

2. Engage first gear and place chocks under the front wheels. Raise and securely support the rear of the vehicle.

3. Remove the appropriate wheel.

4. Remove the brake drum (see "Removing and installing the brake drum").

NOTE: On vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes, remove the brake disc and backing plate.


5. On vehicles equipped with ABS, disconnect the wiring harness connector from the sensor located at the rear of the hub.

6. Remove the four hub mounting screws.

7. Remove the hub while holding the brake shield…

8. …and secure the shield by inserting the hub mounting screw into one of the holes.

9. If it is necessary to remove the brake shield, bend the retainer with a screwdriver…

10. …and disconnect the parking brake cable.

11. Remove the brake hose (see "Replacing brake hoses"), and then remove the brake shield.

12. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

13. If you removed the brake hose, bleed the air from the brake hydraulic system (see "Bleeding the hydraulic brake system").
