Opening windows

Power front windows are standard on Focus vehicles, except for the 3-door Ambiente variant, which has manual front windows.

In vehicles with electric front windows, the one-touch opening function is available for the driver's window only.

The Focus's front and rear power window master closing feature is optional. All windows feature one-touch opening and one-touch closing, with an anti-pinch feature that activates each time the window is closed. The master closing feature can only be activated using the remote control key.

The multifunction switch in the driver's door includes a safety switch which, when activated, prevents the rear door windows from being opened using the rear door window switches. However, the rear windows can still be opened using the switch in the driver's door.

In vehicles with electric front and rear windows, each window motor must be initialized. Initialization is performed before the vehicle leaves the factory. However, the initialization process must be performed again after each power outage.

Initialization is performed by pressing the window switch and closing the window completely. When the window reaches the completely closed position, the switch must remain pressed for another second, then the switch must be released and pressed again for one second.

Fixed Windows/Direct Glazed Windows

The Focus comes standard with a heated rear window on all models, and a heated windscreen is optional.

The windshield, rear window and rear vent windows are installed by direct glazing to the window flange using polyurethane (PU) adhesive tapes. In addition to securing the glass to the window flange, the adhesive tape also creates a hermetic seal along the inside edge of the glass.

For good adhesion and insulation of direct glazed windows, it is essential to use the correct materials and ensure that the PU adhesive is cured.

NOTE: If the ambient temperature drops below 10°C, artificial heating of the adhesive should be used (using a hot air gun).

The curing time of the adhesive depends not only on the temperature, but also on the relative humidity of the air. The curing time in a warm, humid environment is shorter than in a cold, dry atmosphere.

NOTE: A film of water on the glass bonding line or on the window frame flange will prevent the adhesive from bonding the two surfaces properly.

Before applying the PU adhesive strip, it is necessary to remove all moisture on the glass bonding line and in the window opening using a hot air gun.

To perform direct glazing operations, in addition to the tools in the Ford repair kit, you will need a vibrating knife, a set of special knives, a cartridge gun and two glazing suction cups.
