Your Focus's signaling equipment is an important tool for reliably informing other road users of your driving intentions. For example, if you want to change direction, then turn on the turn signal, when you press the brake pedal, the brake lights warn the one behind you. Momentarily actuate the warning light before driving the vehicle out of the enclosed area. But your car has other signaling equipment.

Horn and emergency signaling are mandatory in public traffic

The procedure for admission of rolling stock to traffic on roads and streets (StVZO) mandates the presence of a horn in every vehicle. In addition, legislators insist on an alarm that can protect your stationary or broken car in an emergency. Since the alarm must work even when the ignition is off, it, being protected by a short circuit fuse, is connected directly to the battery circuit. In contrast, the direction indicators receive current only when the ignition is on. You must check the signaling equipment before every ride.

Alarm

with the ignition off, press the hazard warning switch. All six direction indicators and the control light in the switch should flash in the same rhythm.

Direction indicators

turn on the ignition, press the turn signal lever. The corresponding direction indicators must flash in the same rhythm, as well as the indicator lamp in the instrument panel.

Stop lights

put the car back to the wall, press the brake pedal - the wall reflects the brake lights. The same thing happens if the car is in a column of cars. Check in your rearview mirror to see if your brake lights are lit up in the headlights or in the paintwork of the car behind you.

Stoplight test

If all three brake lights are off, then make sure that their switch is working. It is located in the passenger compartment on the brake pedal support bracket. When you press the brake pedal, a pin extends from the switch housing. The contacts in the switch close and pass current to the brake lights. Check the switch by disconnecting the power leads and putting them together - if the switch is faulty, the brake lights will now light up.

Checking the beep

The horn contact in the steering wheel is energized. If the beep is silent, first check if there is voltage. If so, have your assistant press the horn and check the wire connection directly on the horn (on the left in the direction of travel behind the bumper). If there is voltage, install a new horn.
