Their treads are made of a special rubber compound with a large proportion of natural rubber. This special compound creates better grip on wet, slippery roads and at temperatures below 7°C than traditional summer tyres. The main condition for reliable transfer of driving and braking forces to the road by winter tyres is a tread depth of over 4 mm - a smaller tread depth is not allowed and disqualifies the tyre on winter roads. Be sure to equip all four wheels with winter tyres - a combination of summer and winter tyres can be dangerous.

Winter tires are best mounted on their own rims
A good winter tyre doesn"t have to be wide: the minimum permitted tyre size is sufficient for the Focus anyway. In addition, small tyres are cheaper than luxury wide-profile tyres: invest the money you save wisely in a second set of suitable rims – constantly changing from summer tyres to winter tyres is not good for the tyres and is more expensive over time than a second set of rims. The wheels must be rebalanced after each fitting. Drive with winter tyres at an air pressure 0.2 bar higher than in summer tyres. If the permitted maximum speed of your winter tyres is lower than that of your car, a warning sticker in the field of view on the dashboard is required in Germany. The tyre dealer will have a supply of such stickers.
