Checking the exhaust system for leaks (Scorpio 2)

In vehicles with a regulated catalytic converter, a leak in the exhaust system before the oxygen sensor can cause the following malfunctions:

Difficulty starting, engine stalls, vibrations occur at idle, jerking during acceleration.

Prerequisites for checking: the engine is cold or warm to the touch.

Start the engine and, while the engine is running, check for leaks in the exhaust system by plugging the exhaust pipe with a rag. Together with an assistant, check all flange connections for leaks (whistling noise, leaks can be felt by hand).

Spray the cylinder head/exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold/front exhaust pipe and front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter joints with standard Leck-Sucher leak detection agent and inspect for bubbles

Eliminate any leaks found.
