Measuring instruments

To measure the parameters of on-board electricians, the so-called universal measuring instruments will be sold in the distribution network. They combine in one device a voltmeter for measuring voltages, an ammeter for measuring current strength and an ohmmeter for measuring resistances. The proposed devices differ mainly. ranges and measurement accuracy. The measurement range indicates what value the voltage or resistance must have in order to be measurable by this instrument.

For car enthusiasts, there are multi-purpose measuring instruments that are designed specifically for measurements in a car. With one such device, it is possible to measure the crankshaft speed, the angle of the closed state of the breaker contacts, and, in addition, voltage up to 20 volts. The measurement range of such a resistance device is limited, as a rule, to the region of kiloohms, that is, 1-1000 kOhm.

In addition, measuring instruments are available for testing electrical and electronic parts. They allow you to make extensive measurements from small resistances in ohms (Ω) up to very high resistances in megohms (MΩ). Voltage (in volts) can be measured very accurately, which is primarily required for electronic parts.

When it is only necessary to check whether there is any voltage in the circuit at all, for this you can use a simple control pump -A-. First of all, it is only suitable for monitoring electrical circuits, for which there are no electronic parts. This is due to the fact that electronic components are extremely sensitive to high currents and, under certain circumstances, even when the test lamp is connected, they can fail.

Attention: To control electronic parts (transistors, diodes and control units) a voltage indicator with a high internal resistance -B- is required. It works like a test lamp, but does not cause damage to electronic parts and is suitable for all test work.
