The operation of most of the Fiesta's components is monitored. This increases the safety of driving, as it is sufficient to focus on only a small number of indicators and control lamps while driving. If a control lamp lights up in the instrument cluster, the cause of the malfunction must be identified and eliminated as quickly as possible.
Warning lights for low oil pressure, airbags and ABS
The warning lights for low oil pressure, airbags and ABS light up when the ignition is turned on and go out after a short time. If they do not light up or flash while driving, this means there is a malfunction in the systems. In this case, you should immediately contact the service center.
Incorrect information in the instrument cluster
Sometimes control devices do not correctly inform the driver about the state of the systems they control, in these cases either the corresponding sensor and wire are damaged, or faulty sensors transmit false information. If you notice that many indicators are not working correctly at the same time, the cause may be voltage deviations in the vehicle's on-board network, for example, when the voltage regulator is faulty. If this is the case, it is necessary to immediately determine the cause of the incorrect operation of the devices.
Visual inspection before the trip

Before you start driving, carefully check the operation of the instruments in the instrument cluster by visual inspection (the number of indicators depends on the equipment of the Fiesta) (Fig. 15.30).
1. Make sure the clock is working.
2. When the ignition is switched on, the following warning lights should light up for a few seconds: battery charging, emergency oil pressure drop, parking brake (when the parking brake is engaged), airbag and ABS. In a Fiesta with a diesel engine, the engine preheating warning light lights up for a few seconds before starting the engine.
3. The fuel gauge should function the same as when the ignition is off.
4. Don't forget to check the switches for the hazard warning lights, rear window defroster, fog lights (if equipped) and rear fog lights. Check that the corresponding indicator lamps are working.
5. Check the instrument panel and driver's seat lighting.
6. Move the left combination switch lever and check the turn signal and high beam indicator lamps.
7. Check that the battery charge and low oil pressure warning lights go out after the engine is started. Does the airbag and ABS warning lights go out? Does the preheating warning light go out after the diesel engine is started?

Turn on the ignition, disconnect the wire from the oil pressure sensor and connect it to ground. If the indicator lamp lights up, the oil pressure sensor is faulty and must be replaced. If the indicator lamp does not light up yet, check the wires, the conductive film of the instrument cluster and the lamp in sequence. The pressure sensor of a gasoline engine is located on the cylinder block next to the oil filter flange, in a diesel engine - at the lower front of the engine next to the fuel filter.

The fuel gauge or sensor in the fuel tank is faulty, possibly due to a stuck float or a broken voltage supply wire. Only a limited number of faults can be detected in the fuel gauge. To access the fuel gauge, remove the trim under the rear seat, disconnect the connector and use a multimeter to check the wires and sensor (Fig. 15.31).
Other indicator lights.
First of all, check the fuses that protect the electrical circuits of the control lamps, then the condition of the contacts of the wire connectors, wires and sensor elements. To do this, use a universal measuring device. If you find a malfunction, most sensors can be replaced independently. But do not rely too much on the electrical diagram of the instrument cluster, it is better to consult a service center.
