Many of the technical components between the front and rear wheels of your Focus are "watched" by electronic units as soon as you turn the ignition key. This increases safety and is very useful for you: you can navigate while driving by the main indicators and control lights. Please do not underestimate their signals: there is always a good reason for the warning lights on the Focus dashboard.

Oil pressure, airbag and ABS warning lights go out shortly after engine start

This also applies to the oil pressure, airbag and ABS warning lights, which only come on for a few seconds when the engine is started. But if the lights remain dark all the time or flash while driving, assume that there is a malfunction in the system. To avoid more serious damage and unnecessary danger, take your Focus to a Ford workshop for diagnosis immediately.

False information on the dashboard is also possible

Sometimes electronic on-board systems interfere with themselves: sometimes it is not the systems themselves that "fantasize", but their sensors or connecting wires, sometimes faulty switches provoke false information. If you notice, for example, that several indicators have failed at the same time, then often only one voltage regulator is to blame. If this is the case, here is a good piece of advice - you need to quickly identify and eliminate the cause.

Routine for a professional - visual inspection before the trip

Before you set off on your Focus, take a close look at the dashboard - its normal appearance has long been imprinted in your subconscious (the number of indicator devices depends on the configuration of your model), small deviations will immediately catch your eye.



Does the dashboard clock work?

When the ignition is switched on, do the battery charge, oil pressure, handbrake (with the handbrake on), airbag and ABS indicator lights come on? If the Focus has a diesel engine, the pre-glow indicator light also comes on for a few seconds before starting.

Also remember to operate the direction indicator and hazard warning lights, heated rear window (windscreen), fog lights and fog lamps. Check that the corresponding indicator lights are working.

Do the switches and instrument panel lighting work when the parking lights are on?

Operate the left combination lever - do the direction indicator and high beam indicator lights work?

Do the battery charge and oil pressure warning lights go out after the engine starts? Does the airbag warning light and ABS function indicator go out? Does the glow plug warning light go out immediately after the diesel engine starts?

While driving, watch the speedometer and tachometer.
