Timing chain tension

Removing the timing chain tensioner

1. Install (label side out) chain sprocket together with the key on the crankshaft.

2. Install the fuel pump drive sprocket retainer flange with the oil feed line.

3. Install the timing chain tensioner.

4. Install the fuel pump drive sprocket and turn the crankshaft so that the piston in the 1st cylinder is at TDC.

5. Install the timing chain so that its red markings match those on the camshaft and fuel pump sprockets, and the white markings match those on the crankshaft sprocket.

6. Install the chain tensioner sprocket together with the eccentric and tighten the chain so as to obtain a gap of 0.5–1 mm between the tensioner jaw and its holder. Tighten the tensioner pulley.

7. Replace the O-ring on the timing chain cover and screw on the cover.
