Wing — removal and installation (Body and coating / Body panels / Ford Focus 1 1998-2004)

Removal

1. General information

The procedures for the left and right wings are similar.

NOTE: If only one fender needs to be replaced, it is not necessary to remove the entire front bumper and headlight. In this case, it is sufficient to detach the headlight and bumper from the fender. However, the following procedure describes the complete removal process.

2. Remove the front bumper. For additional information, refer to Section 501-19.

3. Remove the wing splash guard. Unscrew the screws.

4. Remove the headlamp assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 417-01.

5. Disconnect the upper wing flange.

6. Remove the seal.

7. Remove the washer reservoir filler tube.

8. Remove the bolt from the A-pillar.

9. Remove the wing.

10. Disconnect the turn signal repeater electrical connector.

Installation

NOTE: The vehicle must be parked on a level, level surface. The door must be fully closed and have equal clearances to the A-pillar, rear side door or rear side trim panel.

Install the wing.

1. Install the wing, install and hand tighten all screws.
2. Check and adjust the gap and edge alignment with the door (4.0 mm±1.0 mm).
3. Tighten the rear top screw.

2. Check the position of the wing.

1. Tighten the front screw on the edge of the fender apron panel.
2. Carefully close the hood.
3. Adjust the gap between the fender and the hood, open the hood and tighten the front screw on the edge of the fender apron panel.
Gap between wing and hood: 4.0 mm±1.0 mm.
Gap between wing and door: 4.0 mm±1.0 mm.
4. Turn the position of the edge in relation to the door.
5. Tighten the screw on the A-pillar, working from the wheel arch side.
6. Check the clearance to the door and tighten the lower screw in the lower body trim panel.

3. Check all clearances and tighten screws.
