On a 1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT engine, perform the following steps:.
1. Reduce the pressure in the fuel supply system (see Reducing pressure in the engine fuel system).
2. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

Fig. 5.65. Installing the fuel rail on a 1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT engine: 1 – fuel supply line to the fuel rail; 2 – fuel rail; 3 – engine crankcase ventilation hose; 4 – fuel supply line coupling; 5 – Wiring harness connector for the variable valve timing system valve; 6 – injector electrical connector ramp; 7 – screws for fastening the fuel supply pipe holders; 8 – phase sensor wiring harness block.

3. Disconnect hose 3 (Fig. 5.65) of the engine crankcase ventilation system from the cylinder head cover.

4. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail by squeezing the clamps of the connecting sleeve 4.
5. Unscrew the two screws 7 securing the fuel supply pipe holders and move the pipe to the side.
6. Disconnect connector 5 of the wiring harness from the intake camshaft variable valve timing system valve by squeezing its fastening clamps.
7. Disconnect connector 8 of the wiring harness from the intake camshaft phase sensor by squeezing its mounting clips.

Fig. 5.66. Disconnecting electrical connectors from the fuel rail injectors.
8. Using a screwdriver, press the clamps of the injector wire harness blocks, as shown in Fig. 5.66, disconnect the blocks of the ramp 6 (see Fig. 5.65) of the electrical connectors from the injectors and move the ramp to the side.
9. Unscrew the two fuel rail mounting nuts 2 and remove the fuel rail.
NOTE: If the injectors remain in the intake manifold when removing the rail, remove them from there.
10. Install the fuel rail and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal, replacing the injector sealing rings.
NOTE: Lubricate the injector O-rings with engine oil before installation.
11. Start the engine and check the tightness of the pipeline connections and injector seals.
For 2.0L and 2.3L Duratec-HE engines, perform the following operations.
1. Reduce the pressure in the fuel supply system (see Reducing pressure in the engine fuel system).
2. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
3. Remove the air filter (see Removing and installing the air filter and intake silencer).

4. Squeeze the clamps…

5….and disconnect the fuel supply line.

6. Remove the two fuel rail mounting bolts.

8. Remove the injectors from the ramp (see Removing, checking and installing injectors).
NOTE: If the injectors remain in the intake manifold when removing the rail, remove them from there.
9. Install the fuel rail and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal, replacing the injector sealing rings.
NOTE: Lubricate the injector O-rings with engine oil before installation.
10. Start the engine and check the tightness of the pipeline connections and injector seals.
