4.4.1. Checking the radiator cap and radiator

Warning: Removing the cable from the negative battery terminal will erase the memory of electronic storage devices. Remember the radio code so that you do not need to contact the service station for this.

To replace the radiator on a 16-valve engine:

- disconnect the wire from the terminal «–» battery;

- Drain the coolant from the cooling system;

- on cars with air conditioning, disconnect both plugs of the connecting wiring, on cars without air conditioning, disconnect the plug of the fan wires and release the wiring harness from the clamps;

- disconnect the wire «masses»;

- with the air conditioner installed, disconnect the plug connector of the system and disconnect the plug for the low pressure switch;

- with an automatic transmission installed, disconnect the wiring. Close the ends of the pipelines;

- Disconnect and remove the top hose on a radiator;

- disconnect the lower hose (pic. 123), and remove it from the nozzle;

- Establish a forward part of the car on support;

- with the air conditioner installed, fix the compressor and unscrew it from the console. In this case, the cable clamps must be cut. The compressor mount is located on the side of the radiator mount;

- Turn out on two screws at the left and on the right in the bottom part of a radiator and remove a radiator together with the fan.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:

- before reusing the hoses, check their technical condition;

- tighten the radiator fastening screws to 10 Nm, union nuts of the cooling pipelines (with automatic) - torque 27 Nm;

- when reusing the radiator, it must be washed with a special agent to remove deposits accumulated inside. Remove all contaminants from the surface of the radiator;

- fill the cooling system.

To replace the radiator on a V6 engine:

- disconnect the wire from the terminal «–» battery;

- drain the coolant from the cooling system (subsection 4.1);

- with an automatic transmission installed, unscrew the union nut of the cooling system pipeline at the bottom and disconnect the wiring. Protect the end of the pipeline from dirt;

- Disconnect the upper radiator hose;

- Turn away a casing of the fan of cooling and wring out from a radiator;

- Establish a forward part of the car on support;

- Disconnect the lower radiator hose;

- with an automatic transmission installed, unscrew the union nut of the cooling pipe at the bottom and remove the wiring. Protect the open opening of the pipeline from dirt;

- with the air conditioner installed, fix the compressor with a wire loop and unscrew the screws securing the compressor (next to the radiator mount);

- Remove both screws on each side at the bottom of the heatsink and lift the heatsink down.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:

- before reusing the hoses, it is necessary to carefully check their technical condition;

- tighten the radiator fastening screws to 10 Nm, union nuts of the cooling pipelines (with automatic) - torque 27 Nm;

- when reusing the radiator, wash it with a special agent to remove deposits accumulated from the inside. Remove all contaminants from the surface of the radiator;

- fill the cooling system.
