4.4.1. Checking the radiator cap and radiator

Warning: When you remove the wire from the negative terminal of the battery, the memory of the electronic storage devices is erased. Remember the code of the radio, so that you do not have to go to the service station for this.

To replace the radiator on a 16-valve engine:

- disconnect the wire from the "–" terminal of the battery;

- drain the coolant from the cooling system;

- on vehicles with air conditioning, disconnect both plugs of the connecting wiring; on vehicles without air conditioning, disconnect the fan wire connector and release the wiring harness from the clamps;

- disconnect the ground wire;

- with the air conditioner installed, disconnect the system plug connector and disconnect the plug for the low pressure switch;

- with an automatic transmission installed, disconnect the wiring. Close the ends of the pipes;

- disconnect and remove the upper hose on the radiator;

- disconnect and remove the upper hose on the radiator;

Fig. 123. Location of the lower radiator hose clamp

- disconnect the lower hose (Fig. 123) and remove it from the branch pipe;

- place the front of the car on supports;

- with the air conditioner installed, secure the compressor and unscrew it from the console. In this case, the cable clamps must be cut. The compressor mount is on the radiator mount side;

- unscrew two screws on the left and right at the bottom of the radiator and remove the radiator together with the fan.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:

- Before reusing the hoses, check their technical condition;

- tighten the radiator mounting screws to a torque of 10 Nm, the union nuts of the cooling pipes (with automatic control) to a torque of 27 Nm;

- when reusing the radiator, it must be washed with a special agent to remove the deposits accumulated inside. Remove all dirt from the surface of the radiator;

- fill the cooling system.

To replace the radiator on a V6 engine:

- disconnect the wire from the "–" terminal of the battery;

- drain the coolant from the cooling system (section 4.1);

- with the automatic transmission installed, unscrew the union nut of the cooling system pipe at the bottom and disconnect the wiring. Protect the end of the pipe from dirt;

- disconnect the upper radiator hose;

- unscrew the cooling fan casing and push it away from the radiator;

- place the front of the car on supports;

- disconnect the lower radiator hose;

- with the automatic transmission installed, unscrew the union nut of the cooling pipe at the bottom and remove the wiring. Protect the open hole of the pipe from dirt;

- with the air conditioner installed, secure the compressor with a wire loop and unscrew the compressor mounting screws (near the radiator mount);

- Remove both screws on each side at the bottom of the radiator and lift the radiator down.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:

- Before reusing the hoses, their technical condition must be carefully checked;

- tighten the radiator mounting screws to a torque of 10 Nm, the union nuts of the cooling pipes (with automatic control) to a torque of 27 Nm;

- when reusing the radiator, wash it with a special agent to remove the deposits accumulated inside. Remove all dirt from the surface of the radiator;

- fill the cooling system.
