Generator Handling Precautions

When carrying out any work on the discharge current units, be sure to observe the following precautions:

- never disconnect the battery or voltage regulator while the engine is running;

- never touch at the same time «mass» and terminals of the excitation winding of the generator or wires attached to them;

- do not confuse both wires of the voltage regulator;

- never operate the voltage regulator if it is connected to «mass» (as a result, the diodes fail);

- always observe the polarity of the battery connection;

- never use a test lamp that is directly connected to the household electrical network (110 or 220 V), for any checks, use a test lamp only with a voltage of 12 V;

- if the battery installed on the car is being charged from the charger, disconnect both wires from the battery, connect the positive terminal of the charger to the positive terminal of the battery, and the negative terminal, respectively, to the negative terminal of the battery;

- Incorrect wiring will destroy the rectifier and voltage regulator.
