Replace the power steering pump on a 16-valve engine as follows:
- disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery;

- determine the location of the power steering pipeline on top of the engine (it is located near the front wall of the engine (Fig. 244), it is secured on one side with a bolt and nut to the engine lifting eye, on the other side with a bolt to the support of the power steering pump and the corresponding clamps);
- disconnect the hose and pipeline from the rear of the power steering pump, collect the leaking fluid in a container;
- place the front of the car on a jack and unscrew and remove the trim from the inside of the wheel arch;

- remove the pump drive belt by loosening the belt tensioner next to the oil filter and turning it to the right (Fig. 245), remove the belt as soon as it becomes free;
- lower the car to the ground;

- unscrew the four bolts (Fig. 246) and remove the pump, the belt pulley must be removed to have access to the front bolts;
- remove the pump belt pulley, for which you will need a puller.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, tightening the pump bolts to 25 Nm, always replacing the pipeline sealing rings, connecting the hose and pipeline to the rear side, tightening the connection to 65 Nm.
Fill the steering gear with fluid and bleed it as described in Section 14.4.
Warning: Always use only Ford specified fluid.
To replace the power steering pump on a V6 engine, proceed as follows:
- remove the engine from its supports using a lifting mechanism: to get to the pump mount, you need to remove the engine mount;
- disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery;
- remove the alternator drive belt as described in the relevant section for this engine type;

- on the top of the engine, determine the location of the pipeline - it is attached to the engine in the place shown in Fig. 247, to remove it, unscrew the clamp bolt 1, union nut 2 of the pipeline and remove it, also disconnect hose 3 with liquid, collect the leaked liquid.
- remove the engine protective cover (three attachment points);
- properly lift the engine from the supports so that the supports are under a slight load;
- disconnect the high-voltage ignition wire clamp and unscrew the six engine mount mounting bolts;
- remove the expansion tank of the cooling system, for which unscrew the two bolts and disconnect the cable connector, move the tank to the side;

- unscrew and remove the engine mount in the place shown in Fig. 248;
- secure the power steering pump pulley with a hexagon socket head bolt of the appropriate size, unscrew the four bolts that secure it, and remove the belt pulley;
- unscrew the bolt securing the pipeline clamp located on the pump and unscrew the pump together with its mounting plate, for which unscrew the bolts and nuts;
- remove the pump; if you need to install a new pump, first remove the pipeline from the pump.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- if the pipeline was removed from the pump, tighten its bolts to a torque of 65 Nm;
- when installing the pump, tighten the nuts of the mounting plate to a torque of 10 N·m, the plate bolts to a torque of 25 N·m, and both top-mounted pump mounting bolts to a torque of 48 N·m;
- reinstall the belt pulley; holding the pump shaft from turning (using an Allen key), tighten the four bolts evenly around the circumference to a torque of 25 Nm;
- tighten the engine mount bolts shown in Fig. 248 to a torque of 83 N·m, and tighten the six mount nuts to the same torque;
- bleed the power steering hydraulic drive as described earlier.
