Checking the technical condition of the toothed rack cuffs (Mondeo 2)

The toothed rack protruding from the housing is protected on the left and right by rubber cuffs. If dirt and moisture penetrate through a damaged or cracked cuff, then, having combined with the lubricant from the steering gear, they form an abrasive paste that can disable the gear. Therefore, replace worn cuffs immediately. In addition, after a certain period of time, be sure to check the condition of the cuffs as follows:

- Use a flashlight to inspect each cuff;

- turning the steering wheel all the way to the right and left, gradually pull out the cuff in parts and check it for cracks;

- the clamps must fit securely on the cuffs.
