Checking the technical condition of the cuffs of the gear rack

The toothed rack protruding from the housing is protected on the left and right by rubber cuffs. If dirt and moisture penetrate through a damaged or cracked cuff, then combined with the lubricant from the steering mechanism, they form an abrasive paste that can damage the gear. Therefore, worn cuffs should be replaced immediately. In addition, after a certain period of time, be sure to check the condition of the cuffs as follows:

- use a flashlight to inspect each cuff;

- turning the steering wheel all the way to the right and left, gradually pull out the cuff in parts and check it for cracks;

- the collars must sit firmly on the cuffs.
