The fuel vapor recovery system canister is removed for inspection or replacement if a persistent gasoline smell appears due to a leak in the canister. In addition, a leak in the canister can cause unstable engine operation at idle speed, even to the point of engine shutdown.
The adsorber is mounted on the rear suspension cross member.
You will need: TORX T30 key, flat-blade screwdriver.
1. Squeeze the clamps…
2. …and disconnect the fuel tank ventilation line from the adsorber…
3. …pipeline to the purge valve of the adsorber…
4. …and the adsorber ventilation pipeline.
5. Remove the two screws securing the adsorber to the suspension crossmember.
NOTE: On some vehicles, the screws will hit the underbody when unscrewed. In this case, the rear suspension crossmember will have to be removed or loosened (see "Replacing the rear suspension crossmember").
6. Using a screwdriver, pry the lower retainer of the adsorber housing out of engagement with the flange of the suspension cross member..
7. ...and remove the adsorber.
8. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
