Removing and installing jets (Mondeo 1)

            0

Defective jets can cause a loud knocking noise in the engine and can cause bearing failure. In such a case, start the engine at idle speed and loosen the union nuts of the jet lines one by one. If the engine stops knocking after you loosen the union nut, you have found a defective jet. Defective jets can be detected by unscrewing the union nuts on the jet lines, and the engine must be idling at high speed at this time. If the speed remains unchanged after you unscrew the union nuts, then the jet is defective. Jets can also be checked using a pressure gauge (the work is carried out in a workshop, the specified injection pressure: 150-165 bar).

The first signs of jet malfunction are:
  • no ignition
  • engine overheating
  • reduction of engine power
  • thick black exhaust
  • high fuel consumption

Removal

Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery.

Warning! This will erase data in electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault memory device or radio code. Please read the section "Removing and installing the battery" carefully before disconnecting it.

Thoroughly clean the outside of the high pressure fuel lines and return fuel lines with cold solvent or diesel fuel.

Completely remove the high-pressure fuel lines "1" by unscrewing the union nuts with a spanner, for example HAZET 4550.

Caution! Do not change the shape of the fuel lines. Close the jets and the high-pressure fuel pump with suitable plugs to prevent dirt from getting inside.

If you need to remove the fuel line fastening clamps, first mark their installation position with a felt-tip pen.

Carefully remove the drain hoses "3" from the jets. These hoses connect the jets together. The last jet, which is on the gearbox side, has a blind cap.

Remove the jets using a removable SW27 key head, such as HAZET 4555. Close the jets from below with plugs to prevent dirt from getting inside.

Caution! Do not allow the jets to fall down.

Remove heat seal "1".

Installation

Installation

In principle, only new heat seals are used between the cylinder head and the jets. The recess must point upwards. The arrow points towards the cylinder head.

Tighten the jets to 80 Nm.

Tighten the jet wires to 20 Nm.

If you removed it, install the mounting clamps in accordance with the marks made.

Connect the fuel drain lines.

Connect the ground (-) wire to the battery. Set the clock and set the radio anti-theft code.

Start the engine and check the fuel system for leaks.
