No special tool is required. The following spare part is required: Fuel filter for the corresponding engine. When purchasing, please provide the car model and year of manufacture.
Diesel engine
A suitable vessel is required to drain the water.
Caution! Leaking diesel fuel must be removed immediately from rubber parts (e.g. coolant hoses), otherwise the rubber parts will deteriorate over time.
Dehydration
Place a suitable container under the drain hole "arrow" to collect the draining liquid.
Unscrew the screw plug of the water drain hole and allow 100 cm³ of liquid to flow out. In the end, only clean diesel fuel should flow out.
If no liquid flows out after unscrewing the drain plug, additionally disconnect the fuel line "1" from the fuel tank. To disconnect, press the locking tabs of the clamp together. Wipe off the leaking diesel fuel with a rag.
Replace the drain plug.
Reinstall the fuel line if it was removed.
Remove air from the fuel system, see p. 7.4.
Remove the container with the drained liquid.
Check the fuel device for leaks with the engine running.
Filter replacement
Drain the liquid completely from the filter as if dehydrating.
Holding the filter insert "1", unscrew the fastening screw "2". 3 = hand pump.
Remove the filter insert.
Remove the O-rings on housing "4" from the top and bottom.
Insert new O-rings into the filter housing.
Fill the filter to the brim with diesel fuel and screw it on.
Remove air from the fuel system, see p. 7.4.
Remove the drain pan and the cover from the bottom of the filter.
After a test drive, check the fuel system for leaks.
Gasoline engine
When removing the fuel filter, a large amount of fuel may spill out; a fuel-resistant container is required to contain it.
Removal
Warning! Do not make open fire, fire hazard!
Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery.
Warning! This will erase data in electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault memory device or radio code. Please read the section "Removing and installing the battery" carefully before disconnecting it.
Raise the car from behind.
Place a suitable container under the fuel filter. The filter is located near the fuel tank.
Place a rag around the fuel lines. Disconnect both fuel lines from the filter by squeezing the quick-release "arrow" tabs together.
Disconnect the fuel filter retaining clip "1" and remove the filter.
Installation
Insert the fuel filter after dismantling. The direction of fuel flow is indicated by the arrow. Tighten the clamp.
Install the fuel inlet and outlet lines.
Connect the battery ground wire. Set the clock to the current time and set the anti-theft code for the radio.
Lower the car to the ground.
After a test run of the engine, check the tightness of the fuel line connection elements.
