Removal and installation of the oil pump

            0

The oil pump is removed for replacement when its supply decreases, causing a constant drop in oil pressure in the engine lubrication system, as well as when oil leaks through the sealing surfaces of the pump housing and cylinder block. Spare parts supply the pump assembly, so this subsection describes only the removal and installation of the pump.

To remove the 1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT engine oil pump, do the following.

You will need: all the tools needed to remove the timing belt and engine oil sump, as well as a 10 socket.

1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2. Drain the oil from the engine oil sump (see Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change).

3. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke (see Setting the No. 1 Cylinder Piston to TDC on the Compression Stroke).

4. Remove the timing belt (refer to Inspection and replacement of the timing belt for the 1.6L duratec ti-vct engine).

WARNING: After removing the timing belt, do not turn the crankshaft and camshafts, as the valves may be damaged by the pistons.

5. Remove the engine oil sump (refer to Oil Sump Seal Replacement).

6. Remove two bolts A and bolt B of the oil receiver, respectively, to the oil damper and the oil pump..

7.... and remove the oil receiver.

WARNING: Replace the oil receiver flange gasket with a new one each time it is removed, as the oil pump flow may drop sharply due to a leak in the connection.

USEFUL ADVICE: Whenever removing the oil receiver, be sure to wash its mesh with gasoline or kerosene from varnish deposits from the oil.

8. Turn out bolts of fastening of the oil pump and remove it.

9. Remove the gasket from the flange of the oil pump housing.

WARNING: Replace the oil pump housing gasket with a new one each time the pump is removed.

GOOD HINT: Replace the crankshaft front oil seal every time you remove the pump (see Replacing crankshaft oil seals).

10. Install the pump in the reverse order of removal, and tighten the bolts of its fastening evenly crosswise to a torque of 9 Nm (0.9 kgf·m).

11. Install all previously removed parts and fill the engine with oil.

USEFUL ADVICE: When installing a new oil pump, we recommend replacing the oil filter.

To remove the 2.0/2.3L Duratec-HE engine oil pump follow these steps You will need: all the tools needed to remove the timing chain and engine oil sump, and a socket " on 10".

4. Remove the timing chain (refer to Duratec-he 2.0L and 2.3L Timing Chain Replacement).

WARNING: After removing the timing chain, it is forbidden to turn the crankshaft and camshafts, as the valves may be damaged by the pistons.

5. Remove the engine oil sump (refer to Oil Sump Seal Replacement).

6. Turn out bolts of fastening of an oil receiver to the oil pump and remove an oil receiver.

WARNING: Replace the oil receiver flange gasket with a new one each time it is removed, as the oil pump flow may drop sharply due to a leak in the connection.

USEFUL ADVICE: Whenever removing the oil receiver, be sure to flush its mesh with gasoline or kerosene from varnish deposits from the oil.

7. Turn out bolts of fastening of the oil pump and remove the pump.

8. Remove the gasket from the flange of the oil pump housing.

NOTE: This is how the oil pump mounting bolts are located.

GOOD ADVICE: Replace the oil pump housing gasket with a new one each time the pump is removed.

GOOD HINT: Replace the crankshaft front oil seal every time you remove the pump (see Replacing crankshaft oil seals).

9. Install the pump in the reverse order of removal, and tighten its fastening bolts evenly crosswise to a torque of 9 Nm (0.9 kgf·m).

10. Install all previously removed parts and fill the engine with oil.

USEFUL ADVICE: When installing a new oil pump, we recommend replacing the oil filter.
