Changing engine oil and oil filter

            0

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, the engine oil should be replaced after 1 year of operation or 20 thousand kilometers (whichever comes first).

GOOD ADVICE: In severe operating conditions in a large city or very dusty area, change the oil and filter every 10,000 km.

You will need: engine oil, oil filter, clean rag, container (at least 5 l) for drained oil, key "13", a special key for unscrewing the oil filter.

GOOD ADVICE: Drain the oil after a trip while the engine is still warm. If the engine is cold, start and warm it up to operating temperature.

GOOD ADVICE: Fill in the same brand of oil as the oil that was in the engine. If you still decide to change the brand of oil, flush the lubrication system with flushing oil or oil of the brand that will be used. To do this, after draining the old oil, fill in new oil to the lower mark on the dipstick. Start the engine and let it idle for 10 minutes.

Drain the oil and only then change the oil filter. Now you can fill in new oil to the required level (up to the top mark on the dipstick).

WARNING: Do not dump used oil on the ground.

1. Remove the oil filler cap.

2. Clean the engine oil drain plug with a wire brush and then with a rag.

3. Unscrew the drain plug, after substituting the container for the drained oil..

4….and drain the oil.

WARNING: Be careful: the oil is hot!

5. Close the cap.

6. On vehicles with an engine equipped with a housing oil filter, remove the filter from its place with a special key..

NOTE: The oil filter is installed on the front of the engine block near the 3rd cylinder.

7….and remove it.

USEFUL ADVICE: Use a special wrench to unscrew the oil filter. If there is no such key or similar puller, pierce the filter housing with a screwdriver and, using it as a lever, unscrew the filter. Punch the filter as close to the bottom as possible so as not to damage the fitting. You can also use a strip of coarse sandpaper folded in half, wrapping it around the filter and moving it out of place with your hands.

8. On a car with an oil filter made in the form of a replaceable filter element, unscrew the drain plug of the filter cover..

9….drain the remaining oil from the filter…

NOTE: Pay attention to the filter plug o-ring..

... replace a cracked, deformed and loose ring with a new one.

10….remove the oil filter cover with a special wrench…

11.... unscrew the cover and remove it together with the filter element.

NOTE: Pay attention to the label..

... and the appearance of the filter, so that when replacing it, you get the same one.

12. If the O-ring of the new canister filter is not factory greased or talcum-treated, lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil and screw the filter back into place (by hand without tools) 3/4 turn from the moment of contact of the ring and the flange of the cylinder block.

13. Fill with clean engine oil (see Checking the level and adding oil to the lubrication system).

14. Replace the oil filler cap.

15. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes (the signal lamp for the emergency drop in oil pressure should go out 2-3 seconds after the engine is started). While the engine is running, check for oil leaks from under the drain plug and oil filter.

Stop the engine, check the oil level, add oil if necessary, tighten the plug and filter.
