You will need: an 18 mm wrench, a flat-blade screwdriver, and a spring compressor.
1. Remove the shock absorber strut from the vehicle (see Removing and installing shock absorber strut).
2. Install the spring compressor…
3….and compress the spring.
4. Finally, unscrew the rod nut, holding the rod from turning.
5. Use a screwdriver to pry off the protective cover of the rack…
6….and remove the upper strut support assembly with the compression buffer.
NOTE: The upper strut mount, thrust bearing and compression damper are a single unit, so if any one of the three components is faulty or damaged, the entire unit must be replaced.
7. Remove the front suspension spring.
NOTE: Replace springs only in pairs (right and left at the same time).
8. Remove the protective cover…
NOTE: Replace the damaged protective cover with a new one.
9….and the shock absorber protective cap.
10. Install the shock absorber vertically and lower and raise the shock absorber rod several times until it stops. Make sure that the rod moves without dips, jamming or knocking. Otherwise, replace the shock absorber. In addition, replace the shock absorber if fluid leaks are detected (minor fogging in the upper part of the housing is allowed) and if the threads in the upper part of the rod are damaged.
WARNING: Replace shock absorbers only in pairs (right and left at the same time).
11. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: After repairing the shock absorber strut, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles (see Checking and adjusting wheel alignment angles). Use the services of workshops that have special equipment.
