Introduction to service manual repair

In the privileged middle class, the Mondeo model of the Ford concern since 1993 «pulling chestnuts out of the fire». It was once developed and advertised as «world car». Since November 2000, the first new version of the Mondeo has been launched. Designed technically and visually in line with the European vision of the car «curvy» and with the new Ford edge design quite lucky «in form language» A rookie has stepped up to the starting line into the new millennium.

With the advent of the Mondeo, rear-wheel drive, which is mandatory for the middle class Ford, has disappeared without a trace to this day. Noteworthy touch: professional test drivers consider the 2000 Mondeo as a car «with exemplary properties»: he points the way to his European rivals, who in the comparative tests have so far been «reference measure», regardless of start. Mondeo convinces us of this in training courses, when driving through narrow streets, during brake tests, as well as passenger capacity and equipment levels - and this is all at purchase or selling prices that are «upper class» in the privileged middle class.

In addition, the manufacturer Mondeo immediately receives the title «European car number 1»: it has become effective in advertising «recall» 23-member international expert jury that chose Mondeo as the «the best automotive novelty of 2002».

Compared to its predecessors, buyers reacted differently to the choice of body options for their Mondeo - a four-door body with a pronounced rear angle between the rear glass and the trunk, a five-door body with a gently sloping roof, or a five-door station wagon (Turnier). Available in Ambiente, Trend and Ghia equipment variants as well as «six engines» fulfills Ford Mondeo most of the wishes of buyers required for this class. For users who understand comfort in Mondeo with 107 kW (145 HP) and the 2.0L Duratec-HE engine, Ford offers a hands-on service to replace the shift lever with an electronically controlled shift lever. This «automation» offers two drive programs, a torque converter lock-up clutch, freewheel functions and an accelerator for relaxed cross-country driving.

Since the 2000s Mondeo variants hit the roads with already «decent» equipment, it is quite gratifying to realize that the list with the wishes of users has remained compact. Here, in addition to various wishes for convenience, they reproach the absence of, for example, an electronic stabilization program for 92 and 107 kW engines (ESP) with automatic stabilization control (ASR). Diesel fans and buyers «small» models with an 81 kW engine should not do this at all. The 170-horsepower 2.5-liter Duratec tames the electronic stabilization program in the limit zone as standard.

ESP supports the driver in critical driving situations with targeted intervention in the chassis. The electronic control unit checks approximately 150 times per second that the actual driving dynamics match, ultimately, with the control parameters set directly by the driver. If there are discrepancies with the parameters stored in the on-board computer, then the sensors of the ESR system give the green light to the operation of the stabilizing electronic system: it instantly «tames» undercarriage through braking action on individual wheels. In very critical situations, ESP also adapts the engine power to the current driving conditions for a short time.

ASP works effectively mainly during a rough start from a stop at a traffic light or on a smooth surface of the roadway: it slows down «crankable» front wheels until the engine power is transferred back to the road without slipping.
