1993 January

• Presentation of the Mondeo as Ford's 'first global car'.
• Engine options: 1.6 l-16V engine, 66 kW/90 hp.; 1.8 l-16V engine, 85 kW/115 hp.; 2.0 l-16V engine, 100 kW/136 hp.; 1.8 l-16V-diesel engine, 65 kW/88 hp (oxidizing catalyst); gasoline engine US 83, diesel US 87.
• Body styles: 4-door sedan; 5-door hatchback body; Turnier (in preparation).
• Equipment options: CLX; GLX (with 1.8L-TD only as a four-door sedan); Ghia (only limousines with 1.8- and 2.0-liter-16V).
• Standard equipment: airbags for driver and passenger*; side impact protection, seat belt tensioners and buckles; safety seats; height adjustable driver's seat and seat belts (front); servo control, pollen filter in the cabin, FCKW-free air conditioning**.

• Facelifting; GT equipment variants with rigidly matched chassis; modifications: airbags for the driver and the passenger next to him (airbag for the driver with 57 liters / for the passenger with 97 liters of gas volume); front wheel suspension; sensitive; shock absorber; four-channel ABS with electronic brake force distribution (Mecatronic-III); all petrol engines D3, diesel '93 EEC II.

1997 February

• FCKW – free air conditioning in all models as standard.

July

• Mondeo Classicline – a special model based on the four-door CLX with a 1.6-liter, 1.8-liter or 2.0-liter Zeteс-E engine; additional equipment for CLX: 6.5J x 16" light-alloy wheels with 205/50 ZR 16 tyres, metal finish, radiator grille, electric front windows.

1998 May

• Modifications of Zeteс-E engines; 1.6 l Zetec-E engine with 70 kW/95 hp.; side airbags; rear disc brakes; standard tires 195/60 R 15; mondeo Festival special edition based on CLX* with ASR, heated windscreen and windscreen washer nozzles, 5000 radio, sports seats, leather steering wheel, electric windows, Festival-specific wheel trims, centre console; serial production of GT variants.
