It must be said that the model range is quite diverse and meets a wide range of requirements. The Mondeo, which has a body with a pronounced angle between the rear window and the trunk, moves on the roads to a greater extent as a four-door version, while those with a body with a gently sloping roof roll off the production line as a five-door version. And the Turnier with a station wagon body appears on the roads most often with five doors. Below is the Mondeo model range:

Well, such goodies as airbags for the driver, the passenger next to him, side, head and shoulder airbags, side impact protection, seat belts and locks, active head restraints, servo control, adjustable steering column, electronic motion blocker, ABS with electronic brake force distribution (ESD), safe brake assistant (EBA), climate control (AC), height-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, folding backrest of the rear seats and rear bench seat, ISO fixator for a child seat, luggage compartment lid (Turnier), hook, filter for dust and pollen in the cabin, tachometer, analog clock, use of athermal glass, electric windows in the front and a centralized door locking system with remote radio control - all this is already on board the 2000th serial Mondeo.
Mondeo Ambiente – the first choice for cold calculation
The "basic version" is available with all body and engine variants. The "smallest" Ambiente with a 1.8-liter displacement develops a power of 81 kW (110 hp). The first power stage offers 15 hp more, with the same displacement. With a 2.0-liter displacement, the Ambiente has 107 kW (145 hp). In addition, it has an automatic transmission. As a diesel engine, the Mondeo mobilizes 66 kW (90 hp) for cold calculation in this case. Another event, the improved basic Mondeo with additional equipment, buyers buy directly from the factory, although Ford traditionally equips its basic versions already in full (see serial equipment) - that is, the "main thing" in the car is installed at the factory.
Mondeo Trend – the first choice for a lover of comfort
The Mondeo Trend is based on the completely "complete" basic equipment of the Ambiente. Buyers of the Trend model initially suffer the "torment of choice", which appears when looking at the company of possible engines. To the set of power units used in the Ambiente model, the Trend model is supplemented by a 2.5-liter V6 with 125 kW (170 hp) and a diesel engine with a working volume of 2.0 liters, increased to 85 kW (115 hp). In this diesel, however, as in its younger brother in the Ambiente, diesel fuel is injected in portions directly into the combustion chamber. In addition, the Mondeo Trend differs from the Ambiente in door handles and decorative moldings lacquered in the color of the car, fog lights are built into the bumper. In addition, both outside mirrors are equipped with electrical heating and an electric drive. Rear seat occupants can use electric windows and a center armrest. The driver in the Trend enjoys a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a leather shift paddle, a decorative aluminum-framed instrument panel, and a shared illuminated auxiliary mirror with his co-pilot. The lumbar vertebrae of a neighbor with back problems can be "unloaded" in the Trend model by adjusting the corresponding supports.
The Mondeo Ghia is the first choice for the discerning buyer with the luxury factor.
The Ghia model in the Ford Motor Company's automotive world is traditionally offered to those who love the luxury class: in the Mondeo Ghia, this means Ambiente plus Trend. For example... automatic climate control... heated windscreen, heated windscreen washer nozzles... 6.5J x 16" alloy wheels with 205/55 R 16 tires... heated front seats... heated footwell... non-slip floor mats... trip computer... rearview mirror with automatic dimming of headlights... dark gray wood-look instrument panel, stainless steel door trims... front reading lights. In addition, Ghia users will recognize this Top Mondeo only by its lettering, various emblems and the typical Ghia 5-spoke wheels. The Ghia driver, who is offered the 66 kW (90 hp) diesel as the first choice, must decide for himself whether to have a Ghia Luxus or a double-digit power rating: both components cannot coexist in the same car.
Mondeo Turnier – the first choice for pragmatic buyers
In principle, the same applies to the Turnier model as to the saloons: the "Mondeo loading area" is the same as in the offspring of the Ambiente, Trend and Ghia, depending on the equipment with all engines. The role of the "trailer truck" is played by the Mondeo Turnier, armed with a 2.5-liter V6 engine and 125 kW (170 hp). Its manufacturer, of course, said goodbye to the pricing strategy - in all versions, the Turnier occupies the top of the price scale. Of course, for those who initially used the advantages of the kombi on weekdays, choosing the Turnier model is the first choice.
Mondeo ST220 – the first choice for the "on-the-go" buyer
The ST220 is, in some ways, the most powerful model in the Mondeo range. Regardless of the shape of the rear end, the ST220 is suitable in any guise – provided that the power-optimised 3.0-litre Duratec-VE powertrain is installed between the driven front wheels. In the ST220, the 60-litre V6 produces 162 kW (220 hp) at 6,000 rpm, its maximum torque is 275 Nm at 4,750 rpm. In terms of technology, the muscular Mondeo is built in the tradition of the former RS models, their genes have largely been carried over to the present day. Since the maintenance and repair work described in this volume is largely identical for all models, we do not assign any "special role" to the ST220. However, wherever the ST220 leads a "private life", we will make appropriate references. The serial production of the new "muscular Mondeo" is scheduled for the beginning of 2002.
Selection program - special equipment
Ford Mondeo buyers are sometimes relieved of the agony of choice already at the factory: not all possible special equipment can be combined from engines and components. The additional design package (front end trim with integrated fog lights, side trim, special rear bumper), on the contrary, is available in all models – naturally, only in combination with light metal wheels, but not with alloy wheels 6.5J x 16" with a 9-spoke design. In addition, the list of special equipment includes a diverse range for music connoisseurs, sports enthusiasts and "private forwarders". However: for various options, sometimes a price comparison notes the benefit of buying them in auto parts stores, for example, if we are talking about a towing hitch for working with a trailer or roof transport systems in various versions. Buyers, of course Mondeo buyers, should determine the basic load-bearing system at Ford dealers: in this case, at least the required level of safety can be guaranteed for possible further "tuning" – at least with proper assembly.
