Engine components Engine cylinder block. This is where the moving parts are located. It is most often made of gray cast iron. The engine cylinder block also contains the generator, starter, and ignition system.
Cylinder head. Situated above the cylinders. It contains channels for the passage of fresh mixture and exhaust gas, valve seats, bearings and guides for the parts that control the operation of the valves, threads for spark plugs, water supply channels and a combustion chamber. |

- Remove the intake silencer. On a diesel engine: remove the intake air duct. On all engines: disconnect the electrical plug connections
- Remove the six cylinder head cover screws and carefully remove the cover. If the cover is tight and does not come loose, tap it with the palm of your hand or the handle of a hammer.
- To measure the intake and exhaust valves of a single cylinder, both valves must first be released. To do this, turn the engine until the ends of both cams of cylinder 1 (to the right of the direction of travel) on the camshaft are symmetrical on the left and right at the top (note the marking of the upper MT). This position corresponds to the top dead center.
