- Release the safety clips on the outer hinges and pull the backrest out of the passenger compartment.
- Before installing the backrest, check the function of the seat belt retractor.
- Carry out the installation in reverse order and tighten the screws with a torque of 25 Nm. Don't forget to replace the safety clips on the hinges.

Checking the seat belts
Seat belts «live» his «inner life». Do not trust them to be in apparently good condition; during an accident, they may be unusable. Therefore, always replace old belts whose service life you do not know for sure.
Well, in order to «old» seat belts in an emergency could save your life, check them from time to time. The Mondeo features automatic seat belts front and rear – even with pyrotechnic pretensioners on the front seats. Possible defects in the system of laying and tensioning the seat belts are signaled by the airbag warning lamp in the passenger compartment. If it gives a continuous signal, then it is better to immediately contact your Ford workshop: it is better not to repair or disassemble the seat belt pretensioner or airbag components yourself. Mondeo inertia belts are equipped with two sensors: the vehicle motion sensor is active when braking, cornering, traveling on steep mountain roads and in an unfavorable vehicle position. The sensor brakes the belt if it unwinds sharply.
Both systems must function properly at all times. Therefore, carry out regular checks of your seat belts. However, before you feel with your neighbor on the right «dynamic abilities» of your belts, make sure that they visually look flawless. If you identify - wavy seat belt
- frayed edges,
- frayed fabric or even
- torn seams,
then you can immediately save time on dynamic checking and «attach» new tapes for your Mondeo. Otherwise, proceed in the following order.

Additional verification (on the bend)
Find a parking lot large enough to be able to drive with the front wheels fully turned. Imagine that your Mondeo needs a turning circle of a good 11 meters.
- Drive in a circle with the steering wheel fully turned at a maximum speed of 16 km/h (no faster).
- In the meantime, your passenger is trying to slowly pull all the belts out of the retractor. If he manages to do this, then the corresponding belt must be handed over to «scrap metal».
Checking the seat belt sensor
- Stand on a flat surface and with the vehicle stopped and tighten the belt almost to the top level of the anchorage. Then suddenly pull the belt out of the retractor. After 25 cm of exit, the belt must be locked. Belts that have reacted after a larger value must be sent for recycling.
- Before assembling new belts, carefully check the attachment points in your Mondeo - if they are already «bloomed» rusted or even broken, then even the most reliable belt, of course, will have the potential for the safety of ordinary men's suspenders.
