- Before installing the backrest, check the operation of the seat belt retractor mechanism.
- Carry out the installation in reverse order and tighten the screws to a torque of 25 Nm. Do not forget to replace the safety clips on the hinges.

Checking seat belts
Seat belts "live" their "inner life". Do not trust them to be in good condition, during an accident they may prove unusable. Therefore, always replace old belts whose service life you do not know exactly.
Well, to ensure that the "old" seat belts can save your life in an emergency, check them from time to time. The Mondeo has automatic seat belts in the front and back - even with pyrotechnic pretensioners on the front seats. The airbag warning light in the passenger compartment signals possible defects in the seat belt stowage and tensioning system. If it gives a continuous signal, it is better to immediately contact your Ford workshop: it is better not to repair the seat belt pretensioner or airbag components or to disassemble them yourself. The Mondeo inertia belts are equipped with two sensors: the vehicle motion sensor is active during braking, cornering, traveling on steep mountain roads and unfavorable vehicle positions. The sensor slows down the belt if it suddenly unwinds.
Both systems must function properly at all times. So, check your seat belts regularly. However, before you and your right-hand neighbor experience the "dynamic capabilities" of your belts, make sure that they look perfect. If you find any - wavy seat belt tape,
- frayed edges,
- worn fabric or even
- torn seams,
then you can immediately save time on dynamic testing and "hang" new tapes to your Mondeo. Otherwise, proceed in the following order. Brake test

- …start the engine and drive in first gear at a speed of 10 km/h (never faster).
- Then brake as hard as possible. Both belts should be locked immediately. Otherwise, the motion sensors are no longer perfect, so replace the faulty belts as soon as possible.
- Repeat the test with all inertia reel seat belts.

Additional check (on the turn)
Find a parking space big enough to allow you to drive with the front wheels turned all the way to the stop. Imagine your Mondeo needs a turning circle of a good 11 metres.
- Drive in a circle with the steering wheel turned all the way to the lock at a maximum speed of 16 km/h (no faster).
- Meanwhile, your passenger is trying to slowly pull all the belts out of the retractor mechanism. If he manages to do this, then the corresponding belt should be handed over to the "scrap metal" yard.
Checking the seat belt sensor
- Stand on a flat surface and in a stopped vehicle and tighten the belt almost to the top of the anchor. Then suddenly pull the belt out of the retractor. After 25 cm of release, the belt should be locked. Belts that react after a larger amount should be sent for disposal.
- Before installing new belts, carefully check the attachment points in your Mondeo - if they are already "bloomed" with rust or, in addition, broken, then even the most reliable belt will, of course, have the safety potential of ordinary men's suspenders.
