Engine Hood Lock Cylinder - Ford Emblem The engine hood in the new Mondeo is now no longer opened by pulling a cable from the passenger compartment, but from the outside with the ignition key. The locking cylinder is located behind the Ford emblem in the grille - the company badge also serves as a shield against dirt. If you do not completely close the key hole with the emblem, the locking cylinder behind it will become «defenseless» against road dirt. In the cold season, after a few kilometers, road salt penetrates the locking mechanism and blocks the cylinder. If this happens, it is necessary to quickly flush the locking cylinder with alcohol or kerosene and then again «revive» its insides with a couple of drops of silicone sprayed oil.
Over time, however, the emblem's retaining spring may loosen slightly. So check the correct fit from time to time - and especially after driving on a bumpy track or if the washing brushes of the washing machine have brought your Mondeo to a shine.
To open the hood, turn the emblem to the side, turn the ignition key to the left and at the same time lift the hood slightly. Then turn the ignition key to the right and open the hood. |
