Adjusting the engine hood (Mondeo 3)

            0

ORDER OF EXECUTION
  1. Work with the pre-assembled hood strictly step by step according to the order given below - otherwise the pre-stressed hinges may "dance" on you.
  2. Align the hood evenly between the fairing and the two fenders (base position).
  3. With the hood open, tighten only the rear hinge fastening 2. Do not touch the front fastening 1 yet.

Tighten the rear fastening of the hinges 2. 1 - Front fastening.
  4. Next, set the front mount 1 all the way up and tighten the screw slightly. The word "slightly" here means that when the hood closes, the hinge still gives a little.
  5. Now allow the hood to "drop" slightly onto the hood guard. In this position, the leading edge of the hood should be approximately 10 millimeters above the fender (X).

Position of the front edge of the bonnet (X) = 10 millimetres.
  6. Open the hood and tighten the front hinge screw.
  7. If necessary, after the hood has been completely closed, readjust the pre-tension again.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Engine Hood Lock Cylinder - Ford Emblem

The engine bonnet in the new Mondeo is no longer opened by pulling a cable from the inside, but from the outside using the ignition key. The locking cylinder is located behind the Ford emblem in the radiator grille - the brand logo also serves as a shield against dirt. If you do not completely close the key hole with the emblem, the locking cylinder behind it will become "defenseless" against road dirt. In the cold season, road salt penetrates the locking mechanism after just a few kilometers and blocks the cylinder. If this happens, you need to quickly wash the locking cylinder with alcohol or kerosene and then "revive" its insides again with a couple of drops of silicone spray oil.

Over time, however, the emblem's retaining spring may become slightly loose, so check from time to time to ensure it's seated correctly - especially after you've driven on a bumpy road or if the car wash's brushes have left your Mondeo sparkling.

To open the hood, turn the emblem to the side, turn the ignition key to the left and at the same time slightly lift the hood. Then turn the ignition key to the right and open the hood.
