Inspection and replacement of the hinges of the drive shafts

1. If the checks in Chapter 1 indicate excessive wear or play in any of the driveshaft pivots, remove the wheel cap and check. what is the hub nut (drive shaft outer nut) tightened to the required torque. Check the hub nut on the other side of the car.

2. Take a test drive. Listen to the metallic sound from the front of the car when turning slowly, when the steering wheel is turned all the way. If you hear such a knock, then this indicates wear on the outer constant velocity joint. The hinge must be replaced as it cannot be repaired.

3. To replace the outer constant velocity joint, remove the drive shaft (paragraph 2). Then separate the blade hinge (paragraph 4). While the boot can be left on the shaft if it appears to be in good condition, it is still recommended to replace it regardless of condition.

4. If you feel vibration when driving with acceleration, then the internal joints may be worn out.

5. To replace the inner joint, remove the drive shaft (paragraph 2), then separate the joint from the shaft (paragraph 3). A constant noise coming from the right drive shaft that increases with speed may indicate wear in the support bearing. To replace the bearing, the drive and intermediate shafts must be removed, and the bearing removed with a puller.

7. Remove the bearing dust cover and purchase a new one.

8. Drive in or press in the new bearing, applying pressure only to the inner race. Hammer in or press in the new dust cover in the same way.
