Brake system malfunctions

Vehicle pulls to one side when braking


  • Worn, damaged or dirty front or rear brake pads on one side (Chapter 1).
  • Jamming or partial sticking of the caliper piston / wheel cylinder (Chapter 9).
  • Brake pads installed on the same axle of the car are made of various materials (Chapter 1).
  • Loosening the caliper bolts (Chapter 9).
  • Worn or damaged suspension or steering components (Chapter 10).


Noise (screech) when applying the brakes


  • Wear of the friction lining to the base metal of the brake shoe (Chapter 1).
  • Excessive corrosion of the brake disc or drum (may occur during long-term storage of the car) (Chapter 1).
  • Jamming inside the brake of foreign particles (fragments of stones, etc.), in contact with the disc (Chapter 1).


Excessive brake pedal travel


  • Rear brake self-adjusting mechanism does not work - drum brakes (Chapter 9).
  • Master cylinder failure (Chapter 9).
  • Air in the hydraulic system (Chapter 9).


Feeling "elasticity" when pressing the brake pedal




Excessive brake pedal force is required to stop the vehicle


  • Vacuum booster malfunction (Chapter 9).
  • Disconnection, damage or loose fastening of the brake booster vacuum hose (Chapter 9).
  • Malfunction of the primary or secondary hydraulic circuit (Chapter 9).

  • Installation of non-regulated brake pads (Chapter 1).
  • Dirt on brake pads (Chapter 1).


Sensation of intense vibration when braking through the brake pedal or steering wheel




Brake sticking


  • Stuck brake caliper piston or wheel cylinder (Chapter 9).
  • Incorrect adjustment of the hand brake mechanism (Chapter 9).
  • Master cylinder failure (Chapter 9).


Wheel lock under normal braking


  • Dirt on the rear brake pads (Chapters 1 and 9).
  • Brake pressure control valve failure (Chapter 9).
