When you press the pedal, it reaches the floor with no effort or with very little effort


  • Rope break (Chapter 6).
  • Incorrect clutch adjustment (Chapter 6).
  • Defective clutch release bearing or fork (Chapter 6).
  • Broken diaphragm spring in pressure plate assembly (Chapter 6).


Clutch won't disengage (unable to select gear)


  • Incorrect clutch adjustment (Chapter 6).
  • Seizure of the clutch disc on the splines of the input shaft of the transmission (Chapter 6).
  • Clutch disc sticking to flywheel or pressure plate (Chapter 6).
  • Pressure plate assembly failure (Chapter 6).
  • Malfunction or incorrect assembly of the clutch release mechanism (Chapter 6).


Clutch slip (vehicle speed does not increase when engine speed is increased)


  • Incorrect clutch adjustment (Chapter 6).
  • Excessive wear on clutch disc linings (Chapter 6).
  • Oil contamination of clutch disc linings (Chapter 6).
  • Pressure plate failure or diaphragm spring weakening (Chapter 6).


Intense vibration when engaging the clutch


  • Oil contamination of clutch disc linings (Chapter 6).
  • Excessive wear on clutch disc linings (Chapter 8).
  • Cable binding or wear (Chapter 6).
  • Malfunction or deformation of the pressure plate or diaphragm spring (Chapter 6).
  • Worn or loose engine or transmission mounts (Chapter 2A).
  • Wear on the splines of the clutch disc hub or transmission input shaft (Chapter 6).


Noise when pressing or releasing the clutch pedal


  • Worn clutch release bearing (Chapter 6).
  • Wear or lack of lubrication of clutch pedal bushings (Chapter 6).
  • Pressure plate assembly failure (Chapter 6).
  • Breakage of the diaphragm spring of the pressure plate (Chapter 6).
  • Breakage of the damping springs of the clutch disc (Chapter 6).
