Malfunctions of the fuel and exhaust system (Mondeo 1 and 2)

Increased fuel consumption

• Uneconomical driving style or unfavorable conditions.
• Clogged air filter element (Chapter 1).
• Engine Management System Malfunction (Chapters 1, 4, 5, 6).
• Incorrect ignition timing (Chapter 5 and 6).
• Insufficient tire pressure (Chapter 1).

Fuel leak and/or fuel smell

• Damage or corrosion of the fuel tank, lines or connections (Chapter 1).
• Leaks from the carbon adsorber and/or connecting pipes (Chapter 6).

Excessive noise or soot from the exhaust system

• Leak in exhaust system or manifold connections (Chapters 1, 2A, 4).
• Leaking through a rusty or damaged muffler or pipes (Chapter 1).
• Exhaust pipe contact with the underbody or suspension due to damage to the exhaust system mount (Chapters 1 and 4).
