Checking and replacing the air filter element (Focus 2)

You will need: TORX T25 key, flat-blade screwdriver.

1. Remove the air supply hose (see "Removing and installing the air filter and intake silencer").

3. …and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the mass air flow and intake air temperature sensor.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the air supply hose and disconnect the connector from the sensor; the air cleaner cover can be moved away with it. However, it is more convenient to perform the operations by removing the air supply hose and disconnecting the wiring harness connector from the sensor.

4. Remove six screws…

5. …remove the air filter cover...

6. …and remove the filter element from the filter housing.

6. …and remove the filter element from the filter housing.


7. Inspect the filter element. Blow it with compressed air. Replace a heavily contaminated filter element.



8. If necessary, remove dust and dirt from the air filter housing.

9. Install a new filter element into the housing.

NOTE: The filter element is rectangular in shape to match the shape of the air filter housing, so incorrect installation of the element is impossible.


10. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
