Torque sensitive
This means that the condition can improve or worsen due to acceleration, deceleration, coasting, maintaining a constant vehicle speed, or changes in engine torque.
Sensitive to vehicle speed
This means that the vibration always occurs at one vehicle speed and is not affected by engine torque, engine speed or gear selection.
Sensitive to engine crankshaft speed
This means that the vibration occurs when changing gears, when a different gear is selected. In some cases, this condition can be determined by increasing or decreasing engine speed with the transmission in neutral, or by checking the engine speed limit with the gear engaged. If the condition is sensitive to engine speed, the cause may not be related to the tires.
If a road test reveals tire noise that is not accompanied by jolting or vibration, the noise is caused by the tire in contact with the road surface.
A dull noise usually indicates a puncture or areas of reduced hardness in the tire that make noise when "slapping" the road surface. A dull noise in tires can be distinguished from noise in the axle. A dull noise in tires does not change depending on the gear.
