Basic set of tools
Even if you are doing simple repair work, you will need a set of a minimum number of tools. This kit includes the following keys and devices:

– set of TORX keys type T…

…and E. On the Ford Fusion, most fasteners are made for the TORX tool;

- a set of screwdrivers with flat and Phillips blades of different sizes, with comfortable handles. When choosing screwdrivers (especially with a Phillips blade), be careful, as a blade of the wrong size can strip the slots in the screw head;

- a set of open-end…

…throw-on…

...or combination wrenches. It is advisable to have wrenches from 5 to 27 mm in size, and when repairing imported cars, you may need wrenches of any size from the specified range, for example, "15" or "18";

– spark plug wrenches "16" or "21" (depending on the size of the spark plugs used in your car);

- a set of Allen keys of different sizes (most often sizes from 2 to 10 mm with a step of 1 mm are needed);

– pliers, side cutters and pliers with variable grip;

– hammers of different sizes with metal and rubber heads (the latter is necessary when performing straightening work);

- center punches of different sizes (necessary when performing drilling work), a set of chisels (can be used to lock a nut or cut off one that cannot be unscrewed);

– when working with the electrical system, you will need special pliers for crimping terminals and plugs, a device for stripping wires, an indicator screwdriver and a set of terminals of various sizes;

– when working with hard-to-reach components and assemblies, a set of socket wrenches with a ratchet and a cardan joint is required;

– a set of universal pullers of different sizes for pressing out bearings and other parts.
Special tools and devices
If you often have to repair your car, in addition to the basic kit, purchase special tools necessary for more complex repairs:
- a portable lamp (preferably one that runs on the car's electrical system). It is necessary when working underneath the car, under the hood and in the cabin when there is insufficient lighting. The lamp must have a waterproof housing with impact-resistant glass;

- a trolley jack and a rubber or wooden spacer;

- a stand (like a "goat") for working under a car;

- special key for brake pipe nuts;

- adjustable collet wrench and clamps for secure fixation of parts;

– a torque wrench to maintain the exact tightening torque of critical threaded connections; it is advisable to have wrenches with a measurement limit of 5 to 200 N·m;

- a special key for the oil filter, it is used in cases where the filter cannot be unscrewed by hand;

- a set of snap ring pliers;

- a device for pressing out and pressing in bearings of front and rear wheel hubs;

- puller for pressing out pins of suspension ball joints and steering rod ends;

– a set of feeler gauges and a caliper for determining gaps during repair and maintenance of the valve timing mechanism, gearbox, differential, etc.;
– mandrels of various diameters (for pressing in bearings, seals, etc.);

- an automotive tester used for repairing electrical circuits and checking the technical condition of electrical equipment;

– a compression meter for diagnosing the technical condition of an engine by determining the compression in the cylinders;

- metal brushes (hand-held and drill-mounted) for cleaning threaded connections from rust and dirt before disassembling;

- goggles to protect the eyes when working under a vehicle;
- charger for the battery.
