Removing and installing the engine hood (Mondeo 1)

Removal



Open and secure the engine hood.

Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery.

Warning! This will erase data in electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault memory device or the radio code. Please read the section carefully "Removing and installing the battery", before disconnecting it.


If present, remove the engine compartment lighting by disconnecting the plug and removing the bulb holder.

Remove the heat-insulating casing from the inside of the hood; to do this, use a screwdriver to remove the clamps.

Disconnect the windshield washer nozzle hoses and close the holes with suitable plugs. Disconnect the hoses from the hood.

Remove the ground busbar mounting bolt on the left side of the hood.

Mark the location of the hinges with a felt-tip pen. To do this, trace the hinges on the hood with a felt-tip pen.

With the help of an assistant, remove the hood, having first unscrewed two mounting bolts on each side.

Installation



Place the hood on the hinges and tighten the mounting bolts without tightening.

Adjust the position of the bonnet in accordance with the marks applied and tighten the bolts to a torque of 20 Nm.

Install the windshield washer nozzle hose into the hinge and hood clamps. Push the hose onto the nozzles.

Install and secure the thermal insulation casing.

If available, install the underhood light and connect the electrical wire plug.

Connect the ground (-) wire to the battery terminal.



Set the time on the clock.

Set the radio anti-theft code.

Close the hood and check the uniformity of the air gap around the perimeter of the hood; adjust the position of the hood if necessary.

Installing a new hood



Secure the hood support bracket with rivets.

Install the hood without the lock and secure it without tightening the bolts.

Loosen the mounting bolts and adjust the position of the closed hood so that the gap between the hood and the fenders is the same and parallel.

Carefully lift the hood and secure it in this position.

Screw on the rubber shock absorber. By unscrewing and screwing in the shock absorber, the height of the hood relative to the wings is adjusted.

Adjust the position of the hood so that the air gap around the entire perimeter is the same and parallel.

Install and adjust the hood lock.

Install the windshield washer nozzles and heat-insulating casing.

Connect the windshield washer nozzle hoses.

Secure the ground wire to the hood.
