Removing and installing the outside door handle and door lock (Mondeo 1)

Removal

Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery.

Warning! This will erase data in electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault memory device or the radio code. Please read the section carefully "Removing and installing the battery", before disconnecting it.

Remove the door trim.

Pull back the protective film in the area of the outer door handle.



Remove both bolts securing the decorative niche of the outer door handle and remove the decorative niche.



Remove the Phillips head screws "1" from the door lock.

Remove screw "2" securing the outer door handle protection.



Disconnect the multi-contact connections of the central locking and anti-theft equipment.





If equipped, remove outside handle light "1".

Remove two bolts "2" and remove the inner drive lever.

Disconnect the central locking multi-pin connector from the lock. If present, disconnect the alarm sensor multi-pin connector from the door handle guard and the locking cylinder position sensor multi-pin connector.



Remove the handle with the lock from the door opening.



Disconnect the door handle from the lock by pressing the rubber blocks inward and pulling the handle out.





Turn the door handle 90°, pull out the two connecting rods and remove the handle.

If equipped, remove the alarm sensor and lock cylinder position sensor from the lock.

Installation

If available, install an alarm sensor and a lock cylinder position sensor on the lock and secure them.

Attach the two connecting rods and install the door handle on the lock.

Install the door handle/lock assembly onto the door.

Connect the central locking multi-pin connector. If available, connect the door handle protection alarm sensor multi-pin connector and the door lock cylinder position sensor multi-pin connector.

Secure the door handle/lock assembly, tightening the three door lock screws to 10 Nm.

Install the internal lock drive lever and secure with two screws.

If available, install door handle lighting.

Connect the multi-pin connections of the central lock and anti-theft equipment.

Install the decorative niche of the outer door handle and secure with bolts.

Apply the protective film.

Install the door trim.

Connect the ground (-) wire to the battery terminal.

Set the time on the clock.

Set the radio anti-theft code.
