Removing and installing switches for the electronic stability program (ESP), hazard warning lights and heated windshields and rear windows (Mondeo 4)

You will need flat-head and Phillips-head screwdrivers.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see Removing and installing floor tunnel lining).

2. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see Removing and installing floor tunnel lining).


3. Remove the two screws securing the lower trim panel of the radio and the climate control panel.

3. Remove the two screws securing the lower trim panel of the radio and the climate control panel.


4. Carefully pry up the left trim plug with a screwdriver…

5….and take it off.



6. Remove the right plug in the same way.

7. Unscrew two screws on the left and right sides of the upper trim mounting…

8….and move it away from the dashboard.

9. Press the latches to disconnect the three wiring harness connectors from the switches.

9. Press the latches to disconnect the three wiring harness connectors from the switches.


10. To remove any of the switches, use a screwdriver to press the two fasteners on the sides of the switch (shown in the photo with arrows) and remove the switch from the trim socket.



NOTE: For clarity, shown with the radio and climate control panel trim removed.


11. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
