Wheel replacement

PROCEDURE
  1. Apply the parking brake and engage 1st gear or reverse (automatic transmission - position «Z»). When changing a wheel on the road, turn on an additional hazard warning light and install an emergency stop sign at the rear.
  2. Use a wedge or a suitable stone to prevent your vehicle's wheels from spinning. Install them on the side of the vehicle that is not being worked on.
  3. Remove the wheel cover. If the cap cannot be grasped, insert a screwdriver to pry it out (on-board tool) between the rim and the cap.
  4. Loosen all wheel screws one turn.
  5. Jack up the car. The jack must be installed, of course, only in the side thresholds provided for this place.

Raise only at the points shown with the side jack.

1 - front lift point, approximately 26 cm from the front end of the door sill,
2 - rear lift point, about 10 cm from the rear end of the door sill. On vehicles with decorative side trim, first remove the trim. To do this, lift from the bottom edge and pull out.
  6. Loosen the wheel bolts and...
  7. ... remove the wheel from the hub, put on a new one (spare) wheel onto the hub and press it against the hub.
  8. Align the wheel on the hub. The rim holes must match the threaded holes in the wheel hub.
  9. Then insert the wheel screws and tighten them firmly.
  10. Lower the vehicle and firmly tighten the wheel bolts evenly with the wheel wrench in order «criss-cross» (the tightening torque should, if possible, not exceed 85 Nm).
  11. Install the wheel trim, align the vents correctly, and hit the rim with a handball.
  12. Drive carefully for the first ten kilometers and then check again that all propellers are firmly seated.
  13. If a spare wheel has been fitted, do not drive faster than 80 km/h. On top of that, the driving behavior of your Mondeo can deteriorate noticeably – in the worst case, a pneumatic tire can even burst.
