General information
The airbag is an additional safety feature and protects the driver in a serious emergency situation.
The airbag is activated by any severe frontal impact at an angle of up to 30° and inflates almost instantly. When the head and upper body come into contact with it, gas gradually begins to escape from the airbag, softening the sharp forward jolt of the driver and front passenger.
In minor collisions or vehicle rollovers, the airbag system does not operate.
Equipment
The additional safety system includes: a nylon inflatable cushion located under the steering wheel panel, a system of additional seat belt tensioning with a gas charge, a control pump on the instrument panel, impact sensors, and a cushion filler gas (harmless carbon dioxide).
Warning: The area under the airbag should always be kept clear. The steering wheel should be cleaned with a damp, but not wet, cloth.
Warning: The steering wheel and airbag should only be repaired at a Service Center.
Security system indicator light
When the ignition key is turned to position II, the control lamp of the security system lights up on the instrument panel and remains lit for about 5 seconds. If this does not happen or the lamp does not go out, flashes or lights up while driving, then the system is faulty. You should immediately contact the 8 Service Center.
It is recommended to change the safety system after 15 years, since after this period the gas composition may change and the cushion will become ineffective.
