Turn on the ignition

Turn on the ignition

To turn on, turn the ignition key clockwise. The starter should not be kept on for more than 5 seconds (20 seconds on diesel models) at a time.

If the starter needs to be turned on more than once, return the key to position I or 0, then turn the starter on again.

Engine speed limiter

The electronic control system limits engine speed, protecting it from overspeed.

Adaptive function of the engine management system

The Ford engine management system has an adaptive function: it remembers the settings of the engine management parameters taking into account its current technical condition. This allows the system to adapt more quickly to changes in the driving mode and control the engine more effectively. At the same time, all accumulated data stored in the RAM of the ECU disappears when the power supply (battery) is disconnected. In this case, after reconnecting the battery, the engine management system must again adapt to this engine. This occurs over a period of approximately 8 km. During this period, uneven engine operation is possible, but such failures do not mean a breakdown.

Warning: If the engine does not start, see Section 28 for details.

Cars with automatic transmission

The engine can be started when the selector lever is in the "N" or "P" positions. The Ford Mondeo is equipped with an additional device that locks the selector lever. It works when the handle is in the "P" position. After starting the engine, the handle can only be moved by pressing the brake pedal and the locking button.
