How to securely lift a car

            0

Always park your vehicle on a solid, level base and remove all heavy objects from the passenger compartment and trunk before starting work.

Before starting work, apply the handbrake and secure at least one of the unbraked wheels with wooden pegs: in extreme cases, large stones are enough. The handbrake alone will not provide sufficient safety, for some jobs it should even remain off.

The onboard jack, along with other standard tools, is easy to find in the spare wheel well. Before you install the lift in the marked bulges under the door channel, raise the jack so that its lever is almost at the height of the channel. You should always make sure that the jack is as vertical as possible to the body.

Important: Install the board jack only at the designated receiving points. The mobile jack must only be installed with a wooden block to distribute the load in the middle under the door sill or at another suitable receiving point (for example, on the cross).

Raise the jack to the desired height and support the body in the appropriate location on the underbody with a jacking tripod. Use stand-up tripods only with a gravity-distributing spacer (e.g. hard rubber, block of wood).

Before you install the staging tripods, carefully inspect the place where the car rests: there may be body folds, wiring harnesses, fuel or even brake hoses in the way.

A tripod stand is most secure if one of its legs is facing outward and the other two are pointing towards the middle of the vehicle. When lifting the car, pay attention to this position. Especially if you are using several tripods, it can happen that when lifting, the already installed tripod is pushed to the side.

Points designated for lifting the Focus during extensive repairs are numbered 1 and 2. Here you can set up stand-up tripods, mobile jacks or lifting platforms with levers without worry. But if you must use other points for special work, then try to increase the contact surface under the bottom of the Focus as much as possible using hardwood planks.
