Checking the brake system (Mondeo 2)

The work is best carried out on a road with a smooth asphalt surface, choosing a time when there are few cars on the road. Perform several braking tests. If the car pulls to the right, then the effect of the left front or rear brake is weak. Long braking distances during short-term full braking at a speed of about 40 km / h also indicate uneven distribution of the braking force. During the subsequent check, slightly release the steering wheel (but keep your hands ready) and check whether the steering wheel beats when braking. Check the parking brake while the car is coasting. When the parking brake is applied, braking distances of the same length should be created. The most accurate, and also inexpensive, is a braking test performed on a service station test bench.

Warning: Due to the impact of road salt on brake discs and brake linings, mainly in urban transport, the brake performance deteriorates significantly over time. In this case, we recommend braking the car sharply several times from a speed of about 80 km/h.
