Checking the cooling system for leaks

            0

Leaks in the cooling system and the function of the safety valve in the threaded radiator cap must be checked using a special pressure tester in the cooling systems.

Remove the screw cap from the compensation tank, check the pipes and the cap for rust and scale, replace them if necessary.

Attention! The cover can be removed only after the radiator has cooled to normal temperature, otherwise you can burn yourself with hot coolant. Cover the lid with a cloth for safety.

Screw in the pressure tester instead of the screw plug.

Pressurize the cooling system by depressing the gas pedal several times. The overpressure should be approximately 1.2 bar.

The pressure created must remain constant for approximately 10 seconds. If the pressure drops, then it is necessary to find leaks in the cooling system. Due to excess pressure, coolant flows out in leaky places.

Relieve pressure and unscrew the pressure tester.

Checking the safety valve

The safety valve is located in the threaded cover of the expansion tank. The task of the valve is to maintain a certain pressure in the cooling system so that the boiling point of the coolant rises.

To check, screw the threaded radiator cap with adapter onto the control device.

Pressurize the system and check the scale at which pressure the valve opens. Compare the result obtained with the value on the screw cap. If the specified value is not reached, the cover must be replaced

Check the coolant level, top up if necessary up to the maximum mark.

Screw the screw cap onto the expansion tank, if the rubber seal is defective, replace it.
