If a front wheel tends to lock, the fluid pressure is too high in relation to the traction force of the wheel with the road, the hydraulic system reduces the pressure in the brake caliper of this wheel based on signals from the control unit. This continues until the wheel has received sufficient acceleration, then the valve closes again and the pressure in the brake caliper increases to the set pressure by pressing the brake pedal. This process is repeated during hard braking for each individual wheel during the entire period of hard braking, almost until the car comes to a complete stop. At a vehicle speed below 5 km/h, the ABS system does not function. A safety switch in the control unit ensures that the ABS system automatically switches off if it is faulty. In this case, the control lamp on the instrument panel is constantly lit while driving. The braking system remains in working order. When braking, the car behaves like a car without ABS. If one brake circuit fails, the working circuit is also controlled by ABS.
Checking and repairing the ABS system must be carried out at a service station.
