NOTE: The steering column can be removed as an assembly with or without the ignition switch (depending on the purpose of removing the steering column). This subsection describes how to remove the steering column without removing the ignition switch.
You will need: a 10 mm wrench, 10 mm and 13 mm socket heads, and an extension.
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the steering column cover (see Removing and installing the steering column cover).
3. Remove the steering wheel (see Removing and installing the steering wheel), having previously set it to a position corresponding to rectilinear movement.
4. Remove the steering column switches assembly with the connector (see Replacing steering column switches).
5. Remove the instrument cluster (see Removing and installing the instrument cluster).
6. Remove the decorative trim from the bottom of the instrument panel on the driver's side (see Removing and installing the instrument panel).
7. Move the wire harnesses away from the steering column.
8. Unscrew the bolt connecting the intermediate shaft to the steering gear shaft.
9. Turn the two bottom…
10….and two upper steering column mounting bolts.
11. Remove the steering column with the ignition switch by disconnecting the intermediate shaft and the steering gear shaft.
NOTE: For clarity, removal of the steering column is shown with the instrument panel removed.
Replacing the steering column bracket is described in the Removing and installing the instrument panel subsection.
12. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
