1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Set the steering wheel to a position corresponding to the straight-ahead movement of the vehicle.
3. Remove the driver's airbag module (see Removing and installing the driver's airbag).
4. Press the clamps…
5….and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the steering wheel.
6. Loosen the bolt securing the steering wheel to the steering shaft while holding the steering wheel from turning.
WARNING: Do not completely remove the steering wheel mounting bolt, otherwise you may injure yourself when removing the steering wheel by hand if it suddenly comes off the steering shaft.
USEFUL TIP: You can prevent the steering wheel from turning using the locking mechanism of the ignition switch anti-theft device. To do this, remove the key from the ignition switch and turn the steering wheel until the shaft is fixed by the anti-theft device. After loosening the steering wheel mounting bolt, turn off the anti-theft device by inserting the key into the ignition switch and set the steering wheel again to the position corresponding to straight-ahead driving.
7. Using sharp blows from your hands, knock the steering wheel off the steering shaft..
8….and finally unscrew the mounting bolt.
9. Mark the relative positions of the steering wheel and steering shaft.
10. Remove the steering wheel.
11. Install the steering wheel in the reverse order of removal.
