Starter malfunctions

Cause
elimination
A. The starter is hard to turn or does not work at all.
  1. The control lamp lights up weakly or goes out:

    A) The battery is empty.

    b) Wire connections are loose or oxidized.

With) The starter is connected to ground.
  2. The control lamp burns brightly, press in the direction of the starter - briefly tap on the electromagnetic switch. If the starter still won't turn:

    A) Carbon brushes or their contacts in the starter are free.

    b) Contacts in the electromagnetic switch are melted (stuck together).

With) The starter winding is damaged.
  3. The control lamp burns brightly, there is no starter noise.

    A) Terminal 1 in the electromagnetic switch is free.

    b) Break in the wire to terminal 1 from the ignition key switch to the electromagnetic switch.

1a. Start the engine using the starter wire to the auxiliary battery, move or tow the vehicle.

1b. Fix the wire, clean the contacts, check the ribbed belt.

1s. Repair starter or replace.

2a. Repair starter.

2b. Repair starter or replace.

2s. Replace solenoid switch, or repair or replace starter.

3a. Check contacts.

3b. Fasten the clamp.

3s. Check the wire with a test lamp for current flow, check the terminal for tight fit.
B. The starter works, but the engine is silent.
  1. Gear is dirty or worn.
  2. The return mechanism is stuck.
  3. The gear wheel on the engine flywheel is damaged.
  1. Clean or replace gear.
  2. Repair starter.
  3. Shift into 1st gear and move the vehicle slightly. Run again. Defective parts must be replaced.
B. Solenoid switch turns on and off rhythmically, the starter does not work.
The battery is heavily discharged, the starting voltage is low. Charge the battery.
D. The starter continues to operate even though the ignition key is not in the start position.
  1. Electromagnetic switch hanging or contacts stuck together.
  2. The ignition/starter switch is defective.
  1. Turn off the ignition, in extreme cases, disconnect the battery. Replace solenoid switch, starter may need to be replaced.
  2. Replace switch.
E. The gear does not disengage after starting the engine.
The return spring of the return mechanism is defective, the drive for forced one-stage engagement and self-deactivation of the gear is worn out. Switch off the ignition, check the starter on a test bench, replace defective parts, replace the starter if necessary.
