Replacing the battery

            0

Before disconnecting the battery, write down all the necessary codes for your Mondeo, such as the car radio's anti-theft code, your recorded radio frequencies, and the like. If you forget to do this, then the radio will become silent in this situation and the side windows will no longer go down: you must activate all power windows again. In addition, engine management «forgets» the bulk of your information. It briefly switches to the emergency program and is usually restored in driving mode (maximum 16 kilometers). If, nevertheless, this did not happen to your car, then you will have to go to the Ford service and load the data into PCM again - this procedure takes several minutes.

This note applies in general to all work during which the battery must be disconnected.

PROCEDURE
  1. Remove the battery cover. To prevent a short circuit, disconnect the negative battery cable first. To do this, unscrew the terminal nut and disconnect the terminal from the battery pole.
  2. Disconnect and remove the positive battery cable.
  3. Unscrew the battery retainer.
  4. Remove the battery from the engine compartment.
  5. When mounting, pay attention to ensure that the battery is stably placed on the console (shaking destroys lead plates).
  6. When installing, first connect the positive wire, then the negative one. The wire terminals cannot be mixed up because the battery poles have different thicknesses.
  7. Lightly lubricate the poles against sulphation with anti-acid grease «Ft 40v1» (Bosch) or vaseline.
  8. Re-enter the codes and run the engine for about three minutes at about 1500 rpm. So much minimum time is needed for the engine management system to recover.
